Technology didn’t ADD expenses. It REPLACED them.

A common justification for HIGH real estate commission is TECH. Technology didn’t ADD expenses. It REPLACED them:
· Print ads
· Paper flyers
· Magazine ads
· Gas from so much MORE driving
· Fax lines
· Office phone lines
· Commercial offices were mandatory
· In-person signatures
· Printer paper
· REAL maps
· MLS books updated weekly
· Pagers
· Answering service
· Receptionists
Gone. Or replaced with something INFINITELY better.
Entire overhead categories — eliminated. High desk fees that once crushed agents? Greatly reduced. Commercial offices swapped for home offices with WORLDWIDE reach.
Technology didn't just cut costs — it MULTIPLIED CAPACITY. One agent today does what used to require an entire office staff. More deals. Same percentage. That's not the same job at the same price. That's a raise!
Buyers now show up pre-educated. They've already searched Zillow. They've already toured virtually. The top-of-funnel work agents used to do? The CONSUMER is doing it now.
Agents fought HARD to lower desk fees FOR THEMSELVES. They demanded relief and got it! But lower commissions for clients? Suddenly that's offensive. Oh the irony!
Food for thought.
